The Alan Edward Higgs Charity
The Alan Edward Higgs Charity is the joint venture partner of Coventry City Council in Arena Coventry Ltd, which operates the Ricoh Arena. In making this investment the Trustees had a dual aim: to invest the Charity’s funds sensibly and to make a step change in the north west of the city through economic regeneration bringing employment and other economic benefit to the people of Coventry.
The Charity supports through its grant making within 25 miles of the centre of Coventry:
• Strategic initiatives that have an effect on large numbers of people over time.
• Projects or activities in particular geographical or thematic areas in order to concentrate the effect of grants.
• The ad hoc needs of groups or organisations with one-off grants.
The Higgs Charity also provided the funds to build a sports and leisure facility in 2004 to provide much needed opportunities for people living in the south east of Coventry. The state of the art centre boasts some of the best sports and recreational facilities in the city and is also home to the Coventry City Football Club Academy.
