Spirit of Singers FC rekindled at Ricoh Arena |

Coventry City’s history is being rekindled in its 125th anniversary season at the Singers Bar and Bistro at the Ricoh Arena.
The club started life as Singers FC when it was founded by Willie Stanley who worked at the cycle factory. In 1898 the club switched its name to Coventry City and in their 125th anniversary year, the Singers Bar and Bistro is to loan a vintage Singer car from the Coventry Transport Museum in Hales Street in the city centre to place in its entrance. Mark Medley, the manager of the Singers Bar and Bistro, said the venue had been named after the successful cycle and car manufacturer as a permanent link to Coventry’s heritage. “When we had the red 1929 Singer Junior in the lobby to the Singers Bar and Bistro it was a real talking point,” he said. “We are delighted that Coventry Transport Museum has agreed to lend us a 1934 Singer Coupe as we re-launch our Sunday carvery at a 25 per cent reduced rate throughout the Sky Blues’ 125th anniversary season. “The reduction in price is proving to be popular with bookings for our three-course Sunday lunch having risen considerably already. “The Ricoh Arena is the home of Coventry City and I hope having the Singer car here will encourage our guests to visit the Coventry Transport Museum which is the city’s most popular tourist attraction. “We want to encourage diners from the region to enjoy Sunday lunch at the Ricoh Arena and have a look at the Singers memorabilia.” Photographs of founder George Singer and early Singer FC team photos are on the walls of the bistro which has a 100-seat restaurant, bar and coffee lounge area. To book Sunday lunch, at the special rate of £9.95 throughout the football season which is served between noon and 4pm, contact 0844 873 6565.
