New home for KartMania '09 |

The sport that gave Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton his first taste for racing is to move to a new home at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
KartMania ’09 will be staged at the Jaguar Exhibition Hall on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29. Organiser Martin Capenhurst, who has been racing for the last 17 years, said the sport and the show was going from strength to strength. “This is purely for karting – there are no bikes or cars just karts,” he said. “The show attracts everyone from top professionals to those who are interested in just having a look before taking up the sport. “We cover all aspects from juniors upwards so there is something for everyone. “The success of Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1 has been of great benefit because he is a great ambassador since during interviews he often mentions that he started off in karting. “We’re trying to attract new people into the sport as well as those who already know about us and with the move to the Ricoh Arena, we are hoping for our best event yet.” Manufacturers, suppliers and retail owners will be among the exhibitors at the Ricoh while there will also be a kart boot – identical to a car boot sale. Martin added: “The kart boot gives everybody the opportunity to sell their old karting items and over the last two years this has proved to be one of the most popular aspects of the event. “We have distributors and retailers selling old stock so it is a great opportunity to buy good quality gear at low prices. “We usually have around 4,000 people attend KartMania. Karting is often seen as a route to Formula 1 which means we see drivers who go on to bigger things that use karting as a training ground while others get involved with karting and stick with the sport which can take you all over the world.” Dominic Fleming, head of sales at the Ricoh Arena, said the venue was an ideal location to hold the UK-wide event. “We are delighted to be welcoming KartMania to the Ricoh Arena and despite these difficult times it is a credit to our sales team that we are continuing to win new business,” he said. “The Jaguar Exhibition Hall has plenty of space for exhibitors and visitors to mill around and I am sure KartMania will once again prove to be a great success.” Entrance costs £10 and it is £7.50 for concessions.
