The Ricoh Arena has bowed to demand to ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ more dates for Abba fans to enjoy the band’s music at the venue.
Abba Mania is already sweeping the sales office at the £113 million venue where staff are taking Christmas bookings. The original production from London’s West End was originally booked for two dates on Friday, December 18 and Saturday, December 19 in the Jaguar Exhibition Hall. But those dates to see Abba Mania have already sold out, leading the Ricoh Arena to add two more nights on Thursday, December 17 and Sunday, December 20 to cope with demand. Mikala Turner, special events manager at the Ricoh Arena, said the response had been phenomenal. “I have been amazed at the response – Abba definitely still have legions of fans and their music remains as popular as ever,” she said. “This show has been performed to thousands and thousands of fans since it started in 1999 and there is definitely no sign of it waning in popularity. “This isn’t a performance of the box office hit Mamma Mia!, it is a re-creation of Abba’s farewell concert over 25 years ago. “To have already sold 3,600 tickets is staggering and due to the demand, the cast has agreed to come to the Ricoh for two more nights.” Tickets for the show, which is being held in conjunction with production company Handshake Ltd, are priced at £54.50 on December 17 and £49.50 on December 20 which includes a sparkling wine reception, a three-course meal, fairground rides and a disco until 1.30am.
