You've got the power!

The big red Ricoh signs will be switched off at the Ricoh Arena on Friday as part of the fourth Switch it Off campaign.

The giant signs will not be illuminated at the multi-purpose venue between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

The Ricoh is among many businesses throughout Coventry and Warwickshire who are supporting the campaign to raise awareness of the importance of turning off non-essential appliances.

Alan Pickering, energy manager at the Ricoh Arena, said the Switch it Off campaign was an important way to promote the different ways in which energy can be saved.

“The Ricoh continues to be a big supporter of the Switch it Off campaign,” he said.

“At this time of the year, the red Ricoh signs are switched on between 4pm and 2am but on Friday the lights will be turned off for two hours from 4.30pm.

“Throughout this time I will be walking around the site to turn off any unnecessary lights and I have been in touch with all our tenants to ask them to switch off all lights and equipment that are not required.

“This year I am going to measure the amount of energy that we save and pass on the information regarding the savings to everyone who works at the Ricoh to highlight the difference that we can make every day and not just during the Switch it Off campaign.

“Over the last 12 months we have installed Passive Infra-Red sensors in every corridor in the Ricoh so that lights only come on when someone is walking in that particular area.

“We have also fitted inverters to the motors of our main boilers to reduce the speed of the motors. There is still the same consistency in the pipeworks but only half the energy is used.

“I know we can make a real difference and with the support of everyone at the Ricoh, I am confident we will significantly help the environment.”
