Join JD's Boyband

4th October 2011

A boyband ambition

MERCIA presenter JD has an ambition to be part of a boy band before he celebrates his 30th birthday – and he needs the help of four singers from Coventry and Warwickshire to make his dream come true.

The radio station is searching for four lads to join the popular breakfast show presenter to create a boy band and release a charity Christmas single.

Ministry of Sound DJ and Coventry-based Paul Morrell will produce the track with all the money raised from its proceeds going towards the Snowball charity which helps sick and disabled children across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Auditions for the band will be held at the Mercia Live Level at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Wednesday, October 12, from 7pm.

And the JD Show house band called Bass, Birds & Beats is working on a song while a choreographer and singing coach have been booked – and Mercia listeners will be given regular updates on the band’s progress throughout rehearsals ahead of the release of the single.

JD said the highlight would be performing the single at one of the region’s Christmas lights switch-on events.

“I’m actually really nervous about this,” he said. “It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do and once I’ve passed 30 next year, I don’t think I’ll be able to justify being in a boy band!

“I can’t wait to see and work with some of the talented people we have here in Coventry and Warwickshire and hopefully we’ll raise a lot of money to continue to support Snowball as well.”

Justine Hewitt, events manager at the Ricoh Arena, said families and friends of everyone auditioning were welcome to come along to the Mercia Live Level to give their support.

She said: “I am sure there are plenty of talented male singers in Coventry and Warwickshire who would also love to be in a boy band just like JD.

“As well as helping JD to fulfill one of his many pre-30 birthday wishes, this is a great way of boosting the funds of a fantastic charity which benefits local children and their families.”

Anyone aged 16 and over who is interested in attending the auditions should register their interest at www.mercia.co.uk before noon on Friday, October 7.
