Kings of Leon support acts announced
KINGS of Leon have announced their special guests at their huge outdoor show at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry in May.
The American band’s hotly tipped fellow Nashville residents Mona will be performing in the stadium bowl along with White Lies on Bank Holiday Monday, May 30.
The five-piece White Lies, who originate from Ealing in London, are made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Harry McVeigh, bass guitarist and backing vocalist Charles Cave and drummer Jack Lawrence-Brown with Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee who join the band for their live shows.
They were named as ones to watch in 2009 by the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award and the BBC’s Sound of 2009 poll while their debut album in the same year, To Lose My Life, reached number one in the UK albums chart. Their second album Ritual was released in January.
Mona will be appearing at the Ricoh Arena just days after their debut album, Mona, is released in the UK on May 16.
The band features Nick Brown (vocals and guitar), Vince Gard (drums), Zach Lindsey (bass) and Jordan Young (guitar) and they were awarded the Brand New for 2011 title at the MTV Awards after also appearing in the BBC’s Sound of 2011 poll.
Justine Hewitt, events manager at the Ricoh Arena, said Kings of Leon had secured two up-coming rock bands to support them on the first date of their summer shows this year in Coventry.
“Anyone who has seen Kings of Leon perform in concert will testify just how great they are live,” she said.
“They will be perfectly complemented by White Lies and Mona whose style of music and stage presence is ideal ahead of Kings of Leon coming on stage.
“It is now just over two months away to their date at the Ricoh Arena and the fact we are the first outdoor show on their UK summer tour will make the night even more special.”

Kings of Leon’s number one UK album Come Around Sundown, featuring the hit singles Radioactive, Pyro and current single The Immortals, is out now on Hand Me Down/Columbia Records UK.
As previously announced, the Hyde Park supporting bill will see British Icon Paul Weller playing his only UK shows for the remainder of 2011 alongside White Lies and Zac Brown Band. In addition to the Ricoh Arena , Mona have been added to the dates in Sunderland, Manchester and London on June 22, with The Walkmen added to the bill for the second Hyde Park show on June 23 and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium.
White Lies have now been confirmed for all of the additional 2011 UK outdoor dates, whilst two-time Grammy winners the Zac Brown Band can also be seen at Murrayfield Stadium on June 26. Finally, The Whigs have been re-confirmed as support for Kings of Leon’s rescheduled show at London’s O2 Arena on June 20 following last December’s cancellation due to fire.
