Olympic Hospitality Operation for the London 2012 Games at the City of Coventry Stadium
The Final Countdown
Final touches are being made to the largest ever hospitality operation at Coventry’s premier sports venue ahead of the Olympic Games starting in the city next week.
Around 300 staff will be involved front-of-house and behind the scenes to look after corporate hospitality guests when 12 Olympic football matches are staged at the City of Coventry Stadium.
The games start on Wednesday (July 25) with a double header of women’s football when Japan kick-off against Canada at 5pm followed by Sweden against South Africa at 7.45pm.
Jacky Isaac, of the City of Coventry Stadium, said this would be the busiest summer in the venue’s history particularly from a hospitality perspective.
“Operationally there is little difference to organising hospitality for the Olympics as there is for Coventry City’s home matches,” she said.
“The only difference is that we have four double-headers with some kicking off at lunchtime or early afternoon which means we will be serving different kinds of foods for the earlier fixtures.
“This is the biggest hospitality operation we have ever faced because although we
sold-out 2,000 hospitality covers for the Coldplay concert, we will never have cooked for such a large number of guests in such a short space of time so staff will be working different shift patterns.
“There will be members of the Olympic Football Federations of each of the countries playing here as well as hundreds of the world’s media to cook for.
“The lowest hospitality price is £30 which includes a match ticket, hot drink and snack so it is a fantastic opportunity for people from all over the region who maybe haven’t been to the venue before to come here to sample the Olympic experience.
“If people have been unsuccessful in buying tickets for events in London then this is a chance to sample the Olympics on your doorstep because we have some great games here including the women’s quarter-final and women’s bronze final matches.”
Jacky said the global appeal of the Olympic Games was evident in some of the bookings which had already been received.
“With the Japanese men’s and women’s teams playing at the City of Coventry Stadium, we already have tickets bought by people flying in from Japan specifically for the matches,” she said.
“A great number of meetings have been held among the hospitality team and all the staff are really excited to be playing their part in the Olympics coming to Coventry.”
