Park and Walking to the City of Coventry Stadium

Park and Walk

Free shuttle buses will run regularly from the city centre to the City of Coventry Stadium on match days during the Olympic Games.

Buses will leave from Pool Meadow Bus Station, Coventry Railway Station and Gosford Street from three hours before kick-off and will depart from the venue for up to two hours after the final whistle.

Additional shuttle buses are being provided from the city centre after two park and walk sites have had to be closed due to the recent adverse weather conditions.

Spectators who have already pre-booked car-parks at Christ the King and St Finbars FC will be contacted directly by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and moved to alternative park and walk sites at Exhall Grange School and Holbrook Primary School. Drivers should print their email confirmation which includes their booking number to bring with them.

Limited spaces remain available at those alternative sites at Holbrook Primary School and Exhall Grange School for people who wish to pre-book their car parking. Please go to www.coventry.gov.uk/games-time-transport or www.firstgroupgamestravel.com/park-and-ride

Motorists who haven’t pre-booked parking should go to city centre car-parks located at Gosford Street, Grove Street, Cox Street and Lower Ford Street. A free bus shuttle bus service will operate continuously on match days from the shuttle bus pick-up points.

These car-parks will be closed to the general public on match days throughout the Olympic Games on July 25, 26, 28, 29 and 31 and August 1, 3 and 9, and there are other alternative car-parks within the city centre.

Additional parking will also be available for spectators at Belgrade Plaza and Coventry University. Both car-parks will be open as normal to the public throughout Games-time.

Signage will be installed throughout the ring road and city centre to direct visitors to the city centre 2012 Games car-parks and Coventry Ambassadors will be on hand to welcome them to the city and provide directions to shuttle bus-stops.

Anthony Mundy, facilities director at the City of Coventry Stadium, said the heavy rain over the last few weeks had meant there was no alternative but to close Christ the King and St Finbars FC.

“We have worked with the ODA and the city council to put contingency plans into operation due to the unseasonably high amount of rain that has been experienced across the country,” he said.

“Free shuttle buses will run regularly from Pool Meadow Bus Station, Gosford Street and Coventry Railway Station and passengers will be dropped off at the service road at Arena Park.

“These will start three hours ahead of any match with the earliest time on the day of the double-headers and passengers will be picked up again for up to two hours after the games have finished from the Foleshill Road end of the service road at Arena Park. Every third bus will have a low load platform and will be accessibility friendly.

“There will also be dedicated accessibility shuttle buses with lift capability from the railway station as well as every third bus having a low load platform.

“All you need to do when you board the buses is show your ticket and more details will be posted on the www.coventry.gov.uk/games-time-transport website with any further updated information.”

Park and walk sites can be pre-booked, costing £5 plus £2.50 booking fee, by logging on to www.coventry.gov.uk/games-time-transport
