Top comics to preview acts at Mercia Live Level
TWO stand-up comedians will be providing the laughs at the Mercia Live Level at the Ricoh Arena ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Richard Herring and Catie Wilkins will be heading to Coventry on Wednesday, June 15 at 8pm to perform their Edinburgh preview acts before heading to Scotland for one of the annual highlights for lovers of comedy.
Richard has appeared on television on Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Genius and his new book How Not To Grow Up was published last May.
He also co-hosts a Saturday morning show on Radio 6 Music with Andrew Collins and their weekly podcast Collins and Herrin, which is recorded in Richard’s attic, attracts up to 50,000 downloads each episode.
Richard was part of a comedy double act with Stewart Lee in the 1990s, known as Lee & Herring, who were famous for TV Shows Fist Of Fun and This Morning With Richard Not Judy.
He will be joined on stage at the Mercia Live Level by stand-up comedian and comedy writer Catie Wilkins.
She was voted as one of the Top 10 Comedians to Catch in 2011 by Dave TV and is currently developing a sitcom with the BBC called Nothing New Under The Sun.
Justine Hewitt, events manager at the Ricoh Arena, said the intimate nature of the Mercia Live Level was ideal for the two comedians.
“Both comedians have received rave reviews from established stars such as Jimmy Carr and I’m sure there will no shortage of laughs,” she said.
“The Mercia Live Level is a great location for Richard and Catie to perform their Edinburgh preview show ahead of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which takes place in August.
“This will be Richard's brand new material that he will be testing out for Edinburgh. He has been busy touring but this night will feature new jokes for the audience to hear.
“As well as writing his own material and performing in shows across the UK, Richard wrote nearly 40 episodes for Al Murray’s alter ego The Pub Landlord in Time Gentlemen Please and also wrote and appeared in a comedy drama on ITV called You Can Choose Your Friends so he has made audiences laugh both on television and live on stage.
“Catie is establishing herself on the comedy circuit and I’m sure her and Richard will leave Coventry with a new contingent of fans.”
