Women's Bronze Final
7 Aug 2012
Canada will be on familiar territory for their Olympic Games Women’s Bronze Medal Final against France at the City of Coventry Stadium on Thursday.
Women's Bronze Final - 9th August 2012
John Herdman’s team have already been to the city on three occasions in the Olympic Football Tournament – a 2-1 defeat against Japan was followed by victories over South Africa (3-0) and Team GB (2-0).
They will be coming to Coventry for the 1pm kick-off aiming to overcome their heartbreak at losing their semi-final to three-times Olympic Games gold medalists USA just four seconds from the end of extra-time in their 4-3 defeat.
Their opponents will be France who lost their semi-final to Japan 2-1 which will be their first trip to Coventry.
Tickets are now on sale from the ticket office in Car Park D at the City of Coventry Stadium.
Russell Chamberlain, LOCOG’s venue general manager for the City of Coventry Stadium, said hosting the Women’s Bronze Medal Final was a wonderful way to finish the Olympic Games in the Midlands.
“It will almost feel like a home game for Canada since they have played here three times already and I am sure there will be plenty of support for both teams,” he said.
“We have already seen the goalscoring prowess of Christine Sinclair and Melissa Tancredi at the City of Coventry Stadium.
“Christine was on fire again against USA when she bagged a hat-trick and she is currently the tournament’s top scorer with six goals while Melissa has an impressive four goals – all of which have been scored in Coventry.
“France will also be determined to win the bronze medal after finishing fourth in the last World Cup and have been in free-scoring form themselves so it should be an entertaining game.
“It has been fantastic to bring the Olympic Games to Coventry and it would be great to finish by seeing as many spectators here as possible.”
