Private Hire and Taxi Exhibition 2012

Proposals to change the law surrounding taxis and private hire vehicles will be the hot topic at the Private Hire and Taxi Exhibition 2012 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

The Law Commission will start a three-month consultation in May to examine the legislation relating to taxis and private hire vehicles to attempt to make the rules much easier for the industry, local authorities and the travelling public to understand.

Their consultants will be attending the Private Hire and Taxi Exhibition which runs on Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday, May 31, between 10am and 5pm to hear the views of visitors to the show.

Liza Lipson, organiser of the UK’s largest private hire and taxi trade exhibition, said it would be an ideal time for drivers and licensing officers to register their comments with the Law Commission.

She said: “This is potentially the biggest shake-up in the industry for the last 150 years.

“There is often confusion among passengers about hailing taxis in the street and pre-booking private hire vehicles as well as there being so many different local licensing regimes all over England and Wales.

“There will be several consultants attending the show but we won’t know until nearer the time which day it will be so it is best to keep checking our website at”

The Private Hire and Taxi Exhibition will be based within the Jaguar Exhibition Hall with around 100 exhibitors showcasing the latest technology, vehicles and products.

Liza added: “We attract drivers of taxis and private hire vehicles from all over the UK and it is a great day out because it is very informative.

“Parking is free and there will be halal food available among the catering stands plus it is free to enter for everyone who pre-registers at our website or rings 0161 688 7777.”

Chris Owen, event manager at the Ricoh Arena, said this was the sixth successive year the show had been held at the venue.

“It is always quite a sight to see row after row of black cabs and liveried private hire vehicles in car-park A as well as all the vehicles inside the Jaguar Exhibition Hall,” he said.

“Every aspect of the industry is covered by exhibitors from satellite navigation systems to insurance, and it is a great chance for everyone to get together.

“There are also games for children to play and free goody bags so there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.”
