Coldplay Concert

29TH MAY 2012

A record crowd for a single concert at the Ricoh Arena had a memorable night as Coldplay kicked off their UK Summer Stadium tour.

A Memorable Night!

Around 40,500 packed into the Midlands venue as fireworks and smoke greeted the band’s arrival on a grafitti themed set.

As the light faded, thousands and thousands of coloured wristbands lit up the stadium as confetti rained down on the band and their hits from Yellow to Clocks rang around the Ricoh.

Chris Martin Tweeted afterwards: “What an incredible crowd we just played for in Coventry. Thank you so much for making it one of our favourites.”

And the rave reviews continued in the Daily Telegraph with journalist Neil McCormick rating the gig five out of five as he said: “The explosion of light and music on Charlie Brown is just amazing, maybe the most spectacular musical moment I have ever witnessed. Coldplay have become one of those rare groups for whom bigger really does mean better.”

Laurie Dalrymple, commercial director at the Ricoh Arena, said: “During the Scientist, instead of singing "Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry You don't know how lovely you are,” he sang “Come up to the Ricoh.”

“Fabulous, fantastic, amazing concert. Mums and kids that managed to get tickets were all raving about it in the playground this morning.”
