Record breaking crowd

A record-breaking number of Florence + the Machine fans meant the Ricoh Stadium hit a new indoor attendance in the Jaguar Indoor Arena.

The band created an electric atmosphere as 12,000 devotees of the award-winners came along to the newly expanded Midlands venue.

Florence Welch provided a show worthy of the biggest indoor crowd at the Ricoh with her energy transmitting from the stage to her fans.

The feeling was mutual as she said: “I’ve had a hangover for the last two days but you’ve made me feel better. This is the ultimate hangover cure. Thank you Coventry.”

The opening fever of the track Only If For A Night was followed by the more intense What The Water Gave Me before two tracks from Florence + the Machine’s debut album Lungs sent the crowd crazy as Rabbit Heart and You Got The Love floated around the larger arena.

The main set finished with rousing versions of Shake It Off and No Light, No Light before the band responded to calls for an encore with Sweet Nothing, their number one hit Spectrum (Say My Name) and The Dog Days Are Over.

Liz Cooper, marketing director at the Ricoh, said Florence + the Machine had produced a show worthy of a 12,000 sell-out, record-breaking indoor crowd at the Ricoh.

“Everyone loved every minute and it was such a shame when it ended,” she said. “This was a big night for the Ricoh as we smashed our previous highest record by 2,000 and having conquered the world during their recent tour, Florence + the Machine certainly impressed her fans in the Midlands.

“The stage production was another key element to the success of the gig with the big screens which meant the backdrop was constantly evolving so you couldn’t take your eyes off the stage.

“We are among only a handful of venues in the UK to have the capacity to hold a 12,000 indoor concert and Florence + the Machine was the perfect way to showcase our larger arena.”

Anthony Mundy, facilities director at the Ricoh, added: “The extra capacity means we can now hold concerts of varying crowd sizes and we were really pleased with the success of our first 12,000 sell-out indoor concert.

“Operationally the gig went extremely smoothly and the band and their fans had a memorable night here at the Ricoh.”
