The XtraGrass hybrid pitch was installed by GreenFields UK at the Ricoh Arena in May 2015. As the Ricoh Arena is home to Wasps RFC and Coventry FC, the hybrid pitch is consistently used for top flight rugby and football matches. XtraGrass is natural grass reinforced by artificial turf fibres and therefore performs like natural grass but with extended playing hours due to enhanced durability.

GreenFields have years of experience as sports pitch contractors for all types of facilities including stadiums, training grounds, sports centres, university sports fields, community playing fields, leisure centres and 5 a side pitches. Products by GreenFields include: 3G Turf, Hybrid Turf, Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs), Natural Grass
The choice of playing surface depends on the sports application. In addition to new sports pitch construction projects, GreenFields also provide pitch replacement and maintenance services for most major sport surfaces including Football, Rugby, Hockey and GAA.

The Alan Edward Higgs Charity is the joint venture partner of Coventry City Council in Arena Coventry Ltd, which operates the Ricoh Arena. In making this investment the Trustees had a dual aim: to invest the Charity’s funds sensibly and to make a step change in the north-west of the city through economic regeneration bringing employment and other economic benefits to the people of Coventry.
The Charity supports through its grant making within 25 miles of the centre of Coventry:
• Strategic initiatives that have an effect on large numbers of people over time.
• Projects or activities in particular geographical or thematic areas in order to concentrate the effect of grants.
• The ad hoc needs of groups or organisations with one-off grants.
The Higgs Charity also provided the funds to build a sports and leisure facility in 2004 to provide much needed opportunities for people living in the south east of Coventry. The state of the art centre boasts some of the best sports and recreational facilities in the city and is also home to the Coventry City Football Club Academy.
