Volunteer Analyst - Wasps Academy

We have an exciting volunteering opportunity for a performance analyst to gain experience within our Wasps Junior Academy. You’ll have the chance to liaise with players on the AASE program and our U16’s.

We’re looking for a volunteer who has free time around evenings and weekends or even a match day in the Henley-on-Thames area. This is where we run our AASE programs as well our other south based training sessions.

Due to the nature of the voluntary opportunity, we would require the successful volunteer to hold an RFU DBS, which if not already held can be applied for via Wasps. This opportunity would best fit with someone who has a high level of knowledge of rugby.

Below is a list of activities which you could gain experience in:

  • Film and code Wasps academy training sessions at Henley Hawks
  • Film Henley College’s home AASE League games – enquiring with the Head of Rugby, Jack Wiggins for any analysis needs
  • Help academy analysts on match days with filming
  • Will be given opportunities to help with Wasps A League fixtures and Premiership Rugby Cup fixtures

 

Any training required to enhance knowledge and understanding of these areas of the business is available and would be conducted by our Head of Rugby, Jack Wiggins and his team.

The below skills and attributes will support you in this voluntary role to gain the maximum experience at this level: -

  • Creative presentation skills
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Keynote skills and experience
  • Studying or achieved Sports Science degree
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (team, coach and player interaction)
  • Self-development: is receptive to feedback about own behaviour, strengths and areas for improvement
  • How to film a rugby training session and match to provide optimal footage for coaches
  • How to use analysis software
  • Will develop use of excel Inc. writing formulae, visual basic and formatting spreadsheets
  • Use of specific analysis equipment
