An event exploring the prosthetic talents behind iconic film and TV characters is coming to Coventry.
The Prosthetics Event is expanding its show space by taking 1,700 square metres of space inside Ricoh Arena to meet demand after launching at Aston University five years ago.
It is an educational event for those interested in the creation of makeup effects, monsters and body art for film, TV and casualty simulations.
This year’s show, now in its sixth year, is being hosted by event founder and prosthetics designer Neill Gorton from Millennium FX and Gorton Studio – who has worked on shows including Doctor Who and films such as Victor Frankenstein and The Wolfman – and will be carrying out demonstrations at Ricoh Arena.
The event is set to attract more than 50 exhibitors and around 2,000 visitors from across the country and overseas, ranging from makeup artists and tutors to hobbyists and beginners.
Katie Davies, from The Prosthetics Event, said: “Interest in our event has exploded over the past few years as different generations become increasingly fascinated with special effects seen in films and TV shows.
“This includes aspects such as how to safely attach foreign objects to bodies, applying ageing make-up correctly and how to accurately fit pre-made wigs and beards.
“The list of special effects is endless and this event is quickly turning into a central hub where all special effects lovers can congregate to pursue their own hobby, start their career and for film and TV professionals to share their experiences.
“Bringing our show to Ricoh Arena is an exciting new chapter in the show’s history – we’ve built a solid following during our inception in Birmingham, and our move to Coventry provides us with more room to meet demand from both exhibitors and visitors as word spreads about our show.”
The addition of The Prosthetics Event to Ricoh Arena’s bill comes off the back of a year that saw the venue host more than 850 events.
Caroline Lissaman, Head of Event Management at Ricoh Arena, added: “This is one of the quirkiest events that we will have held at Ricoh Arena, reinforcing the varied nature of events that we can attract to our region for both the general public and trade audiences.
“The Prosthetics Event has bags of potential which is underlined by its consistent growth year-on-year, and through the combination of its unique offering and our track record of being an events incubator, the event is all set for another major year of growth.”
