Leaders from across the UK’s public safety sector are descending on the Midlands to explore how new and emerging technology can save more lives.
The British Association of Public Safety Communications (BAPCO) Conference and Exhibition is taking place at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena between Tuesday 10 March and Wednesday 11 March.
Around 2,000 leaders, 80 speakers and 70 exhibitors are visiting the event, where there will be a heavy focus on exploring how technology is being trialled to improve efficiency for emergency services personnel to save more lives.
An app developer that has divided the world up into three-metre squares with unique three-word identities – called what3words – will be revealing how their location-specific app works and ways in which it has already been helping some emergency services.
Other sessions at the show will feature artificial intelligence (AI) experts talking about the potential of AI technology, and how it can gather data from response calls to predict future outcomes and inform decision-making on future incidents.
An additional AI session will also shed light on how AI can monitor wearable technology to monitor police officers’ heart rate and blood oxygen to inform management of their workforce’s overall welfare.
An update will also be provided on a trial where healthcare visitors in rural parts of Wales are using satellite technology to liaise with on-call consultants or access online records – bringing some of the benefits of a doctor’s surgery right to their fingertips.
John Anthony, President of BAPCO, said: “It’s essential that public and private organisations that play a role in protecting the public are collaborating with each other – and that’s why this event exists.
“Advances in technology are constantly evolving and the BAPCO Conference and Exhibition, with the input of industry, is striving to deliver some of the key technological developments that will benefit the protection of the general public.
“BAPCO continues to be the premier event in the public safety technology sector, providing a forum for professionals in the field to exchange ideas and experiences, and to keep up-to-date with the latest developments.”
